# Fahan

## What is Fahan?
Fahan is a real-time AI voice translation application built specifically
for Somali speakers. It is the first voice translator designed Somali-first
— meaning the entire speech recognition, language detection, translation,
and voice synthesis pipeline was architected around Somali language
phonetics, grammar, and dialectal patterns rather than retrofitting Somali
onto a generic English-first model.

## How Fahan Works
A user speaks into their phone in either Somali or English. Fahan
transcribes the speech using specialized neural speech recognition,
automatically detects which language was spoken, translates the text into
the target language, validates the translation quality through automated
checks, synthesizes natural-sounding spoken audio in the target language,
and plays it back — all in under one second. One phone, two people, no
interpreter needed.

## Who Built Fahan
Fahan was built by Mohamud Abdi, a Somali-American software engineer
based in Missouri. He holds a Computer Science degree from the University
of Missouri-Kansas City, studied at Ranken Technical College, and worked
at Accenture before founding Fahan. The app is operated by AWO Logistics
LLC, a Missouri limited liability company.

## Why Fahan Exists
There are over 21 million Somali speakers worldwide. Somali is spoken
across Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, and by large diaspora
communities in the United States (Minnesota, Ohio, Washington, Texas),
the United Kingdom (London), Canada, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the
Netherlands, and Germany. Despite this, zero voice translation tools
existed that were purpose-built for Somali until Fahan. Somali speakers
have historically been underserved by translation technology, facing
critical language barriers in healthcare, education, legal services,
government offices, and daily family communication.

## Supported Languages
Fahan currently supports real-time voice translation between Somali and
English. The architecture supports expansion to additional language pairs
including Arabic, French, Spanish, Swedish, Danish, German, and Dutch.
